Executive Director of Denton
Send MessageWhile earning his degree in Anthropology from the University of Iowa, Andy worked as a direct support staff in waiver group homes. After obtaining his undergraduate degree, Andy enrolled and graduated from the University of Iowa’s School of Social Work with his Master’s degree. During his education, Andy was the social work student selected to participate in the ILEND (Iowa Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) Project at the Center for Development and Disabilities at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Before moving into administration, Andy was a direct support staff in waiver group homes and small ICF/IID’s, a Job Coach for Goodwill Industries, a Case Manager and then a Private Therapist for Child Protective Services. In Iowa, Andy served as the Assistant Director for an agency providing residential and day program waiver services.
In 2007, life circumstances brought him to Texas where he began working in the State Supported Living Center division, primarily focused on the admission and discharge process at the Denton State Supported Living Center. He served as a monitor of individuals who move into the community, as the Admission/Placement Coordinator, and as the Director of Consumer and Family Relations. Andy has also served as the Assistant Director of Programs at the Austin State Supported Living Center. He is a proud graduate of the Department of Aging and Disabilities Services “Building the Bench” leadership program, where he was selected by his peers as the class representative speaker for graduation. Throughout all of these experiences, one thing has remained the same- Andy is passionate and committed to ensuring that individuals are given the opportunity to live as independently as possible in the community.
