Dawn joined the D&S family in 2016 as the Director of Clinical Therapies. She received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas in 1993. She began her career in IDD in 1993 at Kansas Neurological Institute (KNI), a 250 bed ICF/ID facility in Topeka, Kansas. She joined the Tennessee Division of Mental Retardation in 1995 when she accepted a specialty position on a physical and nutrition management team at one of Tennessee’s ICF/ID facilities located in Arlington, Tennessee (Arlington Developmental Center). Her primary areas of focus were dysphagia, positioning, functional task/trend analysis and integrating therapy interventions with medical management of complex physical nutritional issues.
While at Arlington Developmental Center, she was promoted to the Director of Therapy and held the position until she moved into Home and Community Based Waiver services with the Division in late 2001 where she was the Director of Therapy for Waiver services. From here, she accepted the Seating and Positioning Clinic Director for West Tennessee Resource Center in 2010 and stayed there through 2015. In 2015, she moved into the private sector as an Educator/Instructor for an accredited OTA program in Memphis, TN until she joined our D&S team in 2016.
She also had the experience to work in the Transition Department in the Regional Office as the state downsized one of its’ IDD facilities.
In addition to her experience with the state of TN, she has been a consultant in the area of therapy and physical nutritional management since 1997 to several IDD facilities across the US.
