Meet Charlie . . . She’s an entrepreneur, an innovator, talented, generous, caring, and above all, a DOG LOVER! Her love of dogs led her on this extraordinary journey. It all started when Charlie began volunteering at the local dog shelter where she met Stacey and Easton — a brother and sister shepherd mix who lived in the shelter and became Charlie’s first dogs to sponsor. Stacey is almost blind so Easton serves as her eyes to help her navigate.
Charlie had already been making tie blankets but began selling them at the shelter to raise money to offset adoption fees. She has now expanded her product line to include para cord dog collars, dog toys, cards with envelopes — all of which are handmade with love by Charlie.
With business bustling, she needed a name for the business and that’s how Charlie’s Paws was born. Now, she not only raises money for adoption fees but it has also opened the door for Charlie to learn advocation skills. She advocates for animals’ well-being. This has led to expanding sales to the Morehead Veterinary Clinic as well as the Tin Woof Inn. Charlie advocates for the animals in her community by volunteering at the animal shelter as well as working with S.T.A.R. (Saving the Animals of Rowan).
This opportunity has also opened doors for her to learn networking skills by talking with local vendors about selling her products at their stores. She has since been involved with other groups in Morehead including Morehead Pride Inc. This has also allowed her to make friends and natural supports to help integrate her into the community.
All of us here at D&S are very proud of the leaps and bounds that Charlie is taking to be an active member of her community and will encourage and assist her with continuing to reach her goals.
