Immediate Residential Options Available in Tennessee through ICF Program

June 28, 2016 by staff

In today’s world, many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their guardians are faced with difficult decisions when it comes to living arrangements. Often times, individuals and their caregivers seek a level of independence that just can’t be obtained in the individuals own home, or in the home of their family member. Currently, in Tennessee, there are waiver programs that provide a residential option, however there is a waitlist. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of waiting. If you are seeking an immediate residential option with around-the-clock care and ongoing support, D&S Community Services may have the answer for you.

In Tennessee, there is an immediate availability of community ICF-IID homes across the state, where no more than 4 individuals live together.  These services are residential in nature and cover the comprehensive services the person needs. There is generally not a waiting list and the person can move into the home and begin receiving services almost immediately.  The eligibility requirements for this program are:*

  • Diagnosis of an Intellectual and/or Developmental Disability

before the age of 18

  • Current physical (within the past 12 months)
  • Current psychological (within the past 12 months)
  • Must financially qualify for Medicaid
  • Must be in need of active treatment**

** The phrase active treatment can be interpreted as intensive specialized supports, services and supervision designed to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities to develop increased skills and independence in functional life areas which are preventing the individual from living in a more independent setting. Individuals with intellectual disabilities who are able to function independently without training, supervision or support from staff would not meet the definition of being in need of active treatment.

We highly encourage anyone who wishes to explore residential options to begin by calling ICF providers, such as D&S Community Services, to learn more about the program. Feel free to contact D&S today to come and tour one of our homes!
