Four years ago, D&S developed the George Davis Service Award to recognize an employee that exemplifies the core values of the company; one that goes above and beyond to help make an impact in the lives of the people we support; and one who inspires fellow employees.
Shawn McAlister of Jackson, TN, is the 4th annual winner of the George Davis Service Award. Shawn has been working with individuals with disabilities for over 20 years, working for Guardian Community Living since 2006 and joining the D&S team when Guardian was acquired in 2013. D&S teamed with Guardian because of their reputation of providing quality services that mirrored the culture of D&S and Shawn is a testimony to that level of excellence.
Shawn currently manages a home in Jackson Tennessee where she promotes a caring and trusting atmosphere for both the staff and the two women residing there, Glenda and Daisy, whom she has provided support to for over 10 years.
Shawn received her nomination from the maintenance supervisor, Sam Kislow, who points out that he has the opportunity to see firsthand in the homes how people are cared for. Sam sums up his observation of Shawn, “Clearly this is not just what she does for a living but more of a definition of who she is”. A powerful statement that captures why we were honored to present her this award.
Shawn traveled to Austin, TX last week to celebrate being chosen as the George Davis Service Award winner. She was treated to sightseeing, some wonderful meals, and a stay at the luxurious Renaissance Hotel. A grand ceremony included words from one of our founders, Hal Davis, letters of accolades from both Senator Ed Jackson and Commissioner Debbie Payne, a plaque, and a check for $2,000.
We are blessed to have Shawn and others like her working with us to provide exceptional person-centered services to the many people we support!
