It’s a very exciting time for our Bertram area folks!!
We just celebrated with our End of Summer pool party – wrapping up 2 ½ months of swimming!! Our individuals look forward to this party all year!! Now, onto fall activities! This is collectively their FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR – from attending local area football games, hot dog roasts at the wildlife ranch, the Buddy Walk at Reunion Ranch, Trunk or Treat at their local churches, to the best thing of all, planning their annual Halloween party!! Everyone gets to put on their creative hats to come up with the most original costumes, the BEST decorated pumpkin and the coolest or spookiest dessert!
We’ve also had many individuals secure employment in their communities recently; we have more people working now than ever! Our consumers are a mild-mannered group of individuals who enjoy spending time out in their communities, working in their areas of interest, and volunteering. One of our young men was chosen as Partner of the Month after only a few months with HEB!! Another gentleman celebrated 25 years of employment with Ross Dress for Less, and yet another celebrated 11 years with the Williamson County Humane Society!! Bertram area individuals are excelling at their jobs, with job coaching and strong support from our DSPs. Woohoo ~ congratulations to these guys and all those who are successfully working in their community!
Our Bertram area goal is to do our very best at putting compatible individuals together in placement, minimizing stress in the living environment, which in turn produces a long-term living situation. We have individuals that have been living in our care since 1983!
Note from a parent:
Our experience with D&S Community Services has been outstanding. In the one year that our son has resided at their group home, he has gained much independence and responsibility. Each resident has a plan for improvement. Through this plan for Tyler, he was able to graduate from high school, manage routine home responsibilities and chores, obtain a job and socially interact better with others. The staff has been exceptionally caring and worked hard to ensure his needs were met. Our experience has been very positive, from the ease of admission to his current status. To paraphrase Tyler’s own words, I’m in a better place as a result of my time with D&S.
Thank you so much for all you have done for my son and our family!
